Wike to Construct Bus Terminals in Bwari, Gwagwalada

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the government will soon begin construction of new bus terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada, two major satellite towns in Abuja.

Wike shared this information during a project inspection on Saturday, where he visited several sites, including the International Conference Centre and the 12-kilometer Ushafa road project. He said the new terminals will connect suburban areas to existing bus terminals in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District.

“Obviously, last time we went to Mabushi and Kugbo. Of course, we will have another one in the central area. We have agreed that we’re going to establish one in Gwagwalada and one in Bwari,” Wike told reporters during the inspection.

He explained that the new terminals will serve as central points for safe transportation, allowing residents in Bwari and Gwagwalada to board buses heading into key areas of the capital. The move is aimed at reducing the dangers of boarding vehicles off the street, where criminal incidents like “one chance” robberies have been common.

Wike noted that once the terminals are operational, passengers can travel securely using registered vehicles from designated points. “By the time we have done that, you can imagine that people will be safe, people will be secure,” he said. “Except you on your own decide to go on the road, to stay. In that case, the government has done what they are supposed to do.”

During his visit, the minister also expressed satisfaction with the pace of ongoing infrastructure projects, especially the Ushafa road. He disclosed that the Kuje-Gwagwalada road is also being considered for dualization.

Looking ahead, Wike mentioned that several key projects will be commissioned as part of President Bola Tinubu’s second anniversary in office. These include major infrastructure works in satellite towns. He said the President may personally visit at least two of the six Area Councils for project launches after the upcoming Sallah celebrations.

“I pleaded with Mr. President, one or two of the roads in satellite towns, Mr. President should be able to go, so that the people will see Mr. President and appreciate him for the job that he has done,” Wike stated.
