The Nigerian government has halted the disbursement of October’s Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue to Rivers State due to an ongoing legal and political conflict involving Governor Simi Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), confirmed the decision in a statement to *DAILY POST* on Friday. He emphasized that the OAGF is adhering to a court order that restricts the disbursement of funds to Rivers State.
“What I got is that the October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the matter of Rivers State allocation,” Mokwa stated. He also noted that the disbursement process for October’s FAAC revenue is still ongoing and that no funds have been released to any state as of now.
The issue arose following a ruling by Justice Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on October 30, which barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the federal government from allocating funds to Rivers State.
This ruling was prompted by a case brought forward by a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule. The faction argued that Governor Fubara’s administration failed to comply with a previous court order mandating the re-submission of the 2024 budget to the Amaewhule-led group for review.
