World’s Tallest and Shortest Women Meet in London

In celebration of Guinness World Records Day, the world’s tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, and the world’s shortest woman, Jyoti Amge, gathered for an afternoon tea in London. The event took place at Savoy Hotel and was a memorable moment for both record-holders.

Rumeysa Gelgi, from Turkey, is 215.16 centimeters (7 feet 0.7 inches) tall, while Jyoti Amge, from India, stands at just 62.8 centimeters (2 feet 0.7 inches). The two women share an extraordinary height difference of 152.36 centimeters (5 feet), but they bonded over their shared interests, including makeup, self-care, jewelry, and nails.

Gelgi commented on their unique encounter, saying, “We do have things in common. We both love make-up, self-care, jewellery and doing our nails.” Despite their towering difference in height, she added, “It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great.”

Amge, who has a bone growth disorder known as achondroplasia, expressed her happiness in meeting Gelgi, saying she was “so happy” to meet her fellow record holder. Gelgi, who was named the tallest living woman in 2021, has a rare condition called Weaver syndrome, and she also holds several other Guinness World Records for her physical features, including the largest hands on a woman and the longest back on a living person.

Amge, despite her small size, is a popular figure in the media. She has appeared on TV shows such as “American Horror Story: Freak Show” and “Lo Show Dei Record” and has made a name for herself as the shortest actress in the world.

The two women, who were recently named Guinness World Records Icons, are a testament to how differences can be celebrated. Craig Glenday, the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, praised their meeting as a way for the two to share their unique perspectives on life. “By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and, also, with us,” Glenday said.
