Paris Saint-Germain’s rising star Nuno Mendes has addressed recent comments made by Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary Portuguese forward, regarding players’ dedication to representing the national team. The exchange comes amid growing discussions around the commitment of some players to the Portuguese national squad, especially as key matches approach.
The discussion began after Ronaldo publicly expressed disappointment with certain players who have chosen to sit out of Portugal’s upcoming international fixtures. Portugal is set to face Poland in a high-stakes match at the Estadio do Dragao on November 15, but some players, including Mendes, opted not to participate in the November international break.
Ronaldo, in a speech after receiving the Quinas de Platina award on November 11, expressed his frustrations with players lacking enthusiasm for national team duties. He highlighted his pride in reaching numerous milestones with Portugal and urged younger players to cherish these opportunities, saying, “Enjoy the national team; it’ll go by quickly.”
In response, Mendes maintained a respectful stance, emphasizing individual perspective on the matter. He responded to Ronaldo’s remarks, stating, “Everyone has their own opinion. I can speak for myself. I am very proud to represent Portugal, and I think it shows. I give my all on the pitch and in training. I will always give myall, and I will always be available to be here.”
