‘You Have to Change Your Mind’ – Ondo PDP Rejects Publicity Secretary’s Resignation

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the resignation of its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Peretei. The party leadership, headed by Bakitta Bello, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee in the state, visited Peretei in Akure on Friday to deliver the message.

Peretei, who had tendered his resignation earlier in the week, made the decision to step down from his position citing dissatisfaction with what he described as “selfish leadership” within the party. He officially submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday to the party at his ward, Arogbo Ward 1, located in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

However, in a move to persuade him to reconsider, Bello and other committee members made a direct visit to Peretei. They conveyed their desire for him to stay with the party. During the meeting, Bello acknowledged that while Peretei had every right to feel disillusioned, he urged him to take a step back and reconsider his resignation.

“Yes, you have the right to feel offended if you need to. But you must also understand, as an experienced politician, that a combination of factors are always responsible for any particular action or resolution of a political party,” Bello said during their meeting.

Bello further appealed to Peretei, expressing that his long-standing commitment to the party and its progress made his resignation a significant matter. “You are a true party man, and that is the reason we have come to make you change your mind. You have to rescind your decision to quit the party because we are not accepting your resignation letter,” he added.

Peretei, on his part, had previously shared his reasons for resigning. He expressed feelings of betrayal, explaining that his disappointment stemmed from the actions of individuals he had once held in high regard.
