“Your Sacrifices Will Never Go in Vain” – COAS Reassures Wounded Soldiers

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, spent Christmas Day celebrating with soldiers who have been wounded or fallen sick while serving their country.

The event took place at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna and highlighted the military’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel.

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede, represented by the Corps Commander Artillery, Maj.-Gen. Marcus Kangye, assured the soldiers that their sacrifices and those of their fallen comrades will always be honored.

The Army Chief said, “All these are in furtherance of my command philosophy.

“Which is to consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.”

He thanked all officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices and untiring commitment in tackling the numerous security challenges facing the country.

“This is especially for those deployed in the various theatres and peacekeeping operations that would not likely be with their loved ones during the festive period due to exigency of duty.

“The collective efforts of our troops towards securing lives and properties are well appreciated by well-meaning Nigerians and the allies of Nigeria,” he said.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye further urged troops to remain disciplined and loyal, highlighting their key role in protecting the nation. He also called for prayers to honor the memory of departed colleagues, including the late Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, also spoke at the event.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by soldiers in the division’s area of responsibility, which spans volatile regions like the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari and Abuja-Kaduna corridors.

Despite these difficulties, he noted significant achievements, including improved security and successful rescue operations.

The Christmas luncheon served as a token of gratitude and a morale booster for soldiers who have given their all for the nation’s peace and security. “We must ensure our troops remain motivated to fulfill all assigned tasks,” Saraso added, highlighting the military’s dedication to protecting lives and national interests.
