‘You’re the Real Betrayer, Not Mbah or Makinde,’ PDP Group Fires Back at Wike

A group known as PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress has issued a scathing response to recent claims by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being the real architect of the crisis tearing through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), not Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu or Seyi Makinde of Oyo.

The group urged Wike to make a clean break from the party instead of staying to “create division and spread confusion.” Their statement follows Wike’s recent declaration that he has withdrawn from all prior peace agreements in the party, accusing Mbah and Makinde of dishonoring past understandings concerning internal disputes.

In a statement made last Sunday, Wike alleged that both governors were the reason reconciliation failed, claiming they undermined an agreement to retain Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and to drop lawsuits against the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.

“To my chagrin, Seyi Makinde had connived with Peter Mba of Enugu State to orchestrate the summoning of the meeting of so-called South-East leaders to recommend that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as Secretary, they would pull out of the PDP,” Wike had said.

However, the PDP support group fired back, saying it was Wike himself who had worked against the party’s interests during the 2023 elections. Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, the group’s National Coordinator, noted, “Wike and his bootlickers dragging PDP leadership in some states are the real destabilising forces.”

“Wike should stop pretending. We know his spirit has since left PDP after sabotaging the party in 2023. Now is the time to completely pull out of the party, and not just pulling out of the so-called gentleman agreement. We want him to also pull out of the PDP. He has given us enough discomfort,” Ikpegbu added.

The group said it finds it ironic that Wike now targets Makinde, who once supported him as part of the now-defunct G5 group of PDP governors. They allege that Wike’s actions have consistently damaged the party from within, noting that less than two years after Wike left his position as governor, PDP in Rivers State is in ruins.

They also accused Wike of shifting his blame from one party leader to another in an ongoing scheme to control or sabotage the PDP for personal interests and possibly for the benefit of the ruling APC.

“Before now he was after the BoT Chairman of our great party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, for refusing to be cowed and bought over. Now he has shifted his attacks to His Excellencies, Governors Mbah and Makinde,” the statement continued.

The group believes Wike’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not just strategic but dangerous, suggesting that Wike may be aiding the APC’s 2027 game plan by weakening PDP internally.

They warned Tinubu and the APC to be cautious: “If he could come out in the open to attack Makinde who was his backbone in the G5 few months ago, then he can do same to his current lovers.”

The group urged party loyalists to ignore Wike’s outbursts and instead support ongoing efforts led by Governor Bala Mohammed and Senator Adolphus Wabara to restore PDP’s structure and prepare for a strong return in 2027.

“We repose confidence in the ongoing efforts of the Gov. Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors Forum, the Senator Wabara-led BoT, and the National Working Committee of our great party to reposition PDP for victories ahead of 2027,” the statement concluded.
