Yuletide: NSCDC Deploys Over 28,000 Officers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 28,300 personnel to bolster security and protect critical infrastructure across the country during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This initiative was ordered by the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, as part of efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the deployment and emphasized its importance. Dr. Audi called on Zonal and State Commandants to strengthen their intelligence operations, warning against any laxity that could lead to vandalism of vital infrastructure.

“The NSCDC remains the lead agency in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the federation, this is our statutory mandate and must not be compromised; all hands must be on deck as we approach the end of the year,” Audi stressed.

Acknowledging the rise in criminal activities during festive periods, he urged officers to remain vigilant and enhance their intelligence capabilities.

“I therefore charge you to brighten your Eagle eyes and reinvigorate your Intelligence tactics as this would make you more proactive than reactive,” he stated.

The deployed personnel include members of specialized units such as crack squads, special forces, and the anti-vandal department.

Key areas such as recreational centers, religious gatherings, shopping malls, motor parks, and other high-traffic locations will be closely monitored to ensure public safety.
