Oyo State Government has converted 1,591 ad-hoc workers in various local government councils to permanent staff positions. The move is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to strengthening the local government workforce.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, made the announcement on Friday, stating that the newly converted workers could collect their appointment letters from Monday, February 3, to Thursday, February 6, 2025. He noted that the process of employment followed due procedures before being finalized.
Governor Makinde had approved this transition in October 2024 to address workforce shortages at the local government level. The affected workers serve across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, and their conversion aims to improve efficiency in the administration.
The commissioner further explained that the appointment letters would be distributed at the Local Government Service Commission during specified hours. He cautioned that collection by proxy would not be allowed and wished the newly appointed staff success in their roles.
“All successful applicants are to collect their appointment letters at the Local Government Service Commission between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily,” Ojo stated.
He also provided a schedule for the collection of letters based on job categories. Those in positions such as Administrative Officer, Agricultural Officer, Data Processing Officer, Engineering, Building, and Quantity Surveyor, Estate Valuation Officer, Environmental Health Officer, Information Officer, and Land Surveyor should collect their letters on Monday, February 3.
Clerical Officers are scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, while Messengers and Cleaners will receive theirs on Wednesday, February 5. Finally, Drivers, Mechanics, Articulated Vehicle Drivers, and Watchmen will collect their letters on Thursday, February 6.
