Tinubu Signs Bill to Establish North-Central Development Commission

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill into law. The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a Senate session on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

This new development is expected to focus on advancing growth and infrastructure in the North-Central region of Nigeria, an area that has long faced challenges in terms of economic progress and development. The North-Central region includes states such as Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau, which are rich in resources but have historically lagged in terms of federal attention and development compared to other regions in the country.

In his statement, Senate President Akpabio noted that the establishment of the commission is an important step in ensuring that the benefits of national progress are felt across all parts of Nigeria. He shared optimism that the NCDC would directly impact local communities, bringing essential services, job opportunities, and infrastructure development to the grassroots.

Akpabio said: “Let me also inform my colleagues that Mr President has also assented to the North-Central Development Commission establishment bill 2024, to bring development to the grassroots. And for this, we congratulate the good people of the North-Central region of Nigeria, and we wish them more development and particularly peace, as we forge ahead in the task of nation-building.”
