The Katsina State Government has begun distributing financial aid and food supplies to 7,220 widows and underprivileged women across the state. The initiative is part of a broader social welfare program aimed at assisting vulnerable groups.
Governor Dikko Radda officially launched the program at the Government House in Katsina, where he handed out 25kg bags of rice and N10,000 cash grants to 840 women from Katsina, Kaita, Rimi, and Batagarawa local government areas.
During the event, Radda noted that his administration is dedicated to improving the lives of those in need, particularly widows and disadvantaged women.
“This event marks a significant milestone in our administration’s determination to enhance the social and economic welfare of our people, particularly the most vulnerable among us, our cherished widows and underprivileged women,” he stated.
He further noted that helping widows and underprivileged women is both a moral duty and a responsibility that the government takes seriously. Many of these women, he said, have lost their loved ones and now face economic difficulties and social exclusion.
The governor explained that the program is designed to give widows a sense of dignity, hope, and new opportunities. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support provided.
“The resources and support you have received today should be used wisely to improve your livelihoods and the well-being of your families. Our administration remains committed to supporting you as you work towards lasting success,” Radda said.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ishaq Dabai, noted that the beneficiaries were selected from all 34 local government areas in the state. He added that each ward would have 20 women receiving support.
