Olubadan Voids Sarkin Sasa Title, Reaffirms Baale as Sole Authority in Sasa Community

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has declared that the title of Sarkin Sasa in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State is no longer valid and is not supported by the traditional laws governing Ibadan chieftaincy affairs. The decision was made during a meeting of the Olubadan-In-Council held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace located in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The announcement followed the recent selection of Ahmed Haruna, also known as Ciroma, as the new Sarkin Sasa. He was nominated by his family and the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 Southern States of Nigeria, after the passing of the former titleholder. However, this selection was made without the knowledge or approval of the Olubadan or his council.

In a formal statement released by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, the Olubadan made it clear that the only legally recognized community leader in the area is Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa, who holds the position of Baale of Sasa. The Olubadan noted that Amusa is the official representative of the Ibadan traditional authority in the Sasa community.

“Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa is the recognised Baale of Sasa land in the Akinyele Local Area of the state, and the accredited representative of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” the statement said.

The monarch further warned residents and groups within the Sasa area to respect the position of the Baale and accept his leadership. He noted that disobedience toward the Baale’s authority would be taken as a direct insult to the Olubadan throne and could lead to severe consequences.

“Let it be noted that any individual or group of persons in Sasa land are under the authority of the Baale of Sasa land; Akinade Ajani. It is therefore imperative to accord him the appropriate respect and authority. Any disobedience to his directive will be met with serious sanctions as it will be considered an affront to the Olubadan stool,” the statement concluded.
