Amotekun Nabs Drug Kingpin in Ogun Market Bust

Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, known locally as the Amotekun Corps, have apprehended a man suspected of being deeply involved in the illegal drug trade.

The arrest took place in Ayetoro, a lively commercial area within Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Obi Emmanuel, was taken into custody near a chemist shop at about 4:30 pm, following a joint effort between the Amotekun Corps and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Intelligence and Investigation of the Amotekun Corps, CSP Shodeke Sholanke (rtd), the arrest was carried out after credible intelligence was shared by the NDLEA.

The statement noted that Emmanuel was allegedly at the center of a drug distribution network operating in the region. He is believed to have coordinated the transportation and sale of illegal substances with the help of a commercial driver, widely known in the area as Alausa.

Just a day before Emmanuel’s arrest, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, NDLEA operatives had intercepted an 18-seater commercial Mazda bus along the Abeokuta-Ayetoro road. The vehicle was allegedly carrying a large quantity of suspected hard drugs, believed to be worth several million Naira. During interrogation, the driver confessed that the drugs belonged to Emmanuel, prompting the quick involvement of Amotekun officers.

“This operation is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in Ogun State,” Sholanke said in the official statement. “We received timely information, acted fast, and successfully apprehended the suspect without any resistance.”

Alausa, the commercial driver, remains in NDLEA custody, while Emmanuel has now been handed over to the agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Amotekun Corps also noted the value of continued collaboration with NDLEA and other law enforcement agencies, saying such partnerships are key in disrupting drug-related activities in the state.
