BREAKING: Ogun State Govt Reveals Date For Local Government Elections

The Ogun State government has officially announced that local government elections will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024. This significant decision was revealed by Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC).

In a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday, Mr. Osibodu provided a detailed timeline leading up to the elections. “Thursday, August 8, 2024, is scheduled for the release of guidelines for the conduct of the elections and stakeholders meeting while campaigns by the political parties begin on Friday, August 9,” he stated. This marks the start of a rigorous campaign period where political parties will engage with voters and present their candidates.

Additionally, political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between Monday, August 26, and Monday, September 9, 2024. These primaries are essential for selecting party representatives who will contest in the local government elections.

The announcement follows a period of speculation regarding the election date. Last month, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, refuted claims circulating on social media that the elections were set for October 26, 2024, labeling such reports as fake news.
