The Kano State Government has lifted the curfew that was previously imposed on the city. The decision comes as stability begins to return to the region after a period of intense unrest.
The protests, which were sparked by widespread dissatisfaction with governance, led to significant disturbances across Kano. The city experienced severe violence, including the destruction and looting of properties valued at billions of naira.
In reaction to these events, the government initially enforced a 24-hour curfew to maintain order and ensure public safety. Subsequently, the curfew was adjusted to run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., allowing residents some time to conduct business and attend to daily activities.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s media aide, Salisu Yahya Hotoro, made an announcement on the Governor’s Facebook page on Monday. The statement confirmed that the full curfew has now been lifted, as the government believes that peace has been restored in the city.
“The 24 hours curfew slammed on Kano, has been effectively lifted as peace has completely returned to the city,” the statement read.
