Only a Coalition Can Remove Tinubu in 2027 – Dele Momodu

A two-time presidential hopeful and prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has stated that the only real chance of removing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office in the next general election will be through a united coalition of opposition parties.

Momodu, who was speaking during a live interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) monthly show “Guest of the Month” in Ibadan, explained that the current strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) makes it difficult for any single party to defeat it alone.

He noted that although he remains in the PDP, he feels disconnected from the party due to internal challenges. “My soul has left the PDP,” he said, “only my body is still there.”

According to Momodu, the PDP still has the potential to return to power in 2027, but only if it can overcome internal divisions and external threats. He accused the ruling APC of trying to break the PDP apart by fueling internal conflicts. “The APC is jittery of the PDP, noting that it is the only opposition party that can challenge its dominance in 2027,” he said.

He further noted that a major issue facing the PDP is the role of members within the party who are allegedly working against its progress. Despite these issues, Momodu believes the PDP remains committed to lawful procedures when handling internal conflicts and disciplining members.

“It is the law that will stimulate the process of suspending or sacking erring members,” he said.

Momodu stressed that defeating President Tinubu in the next election is only possible with the support of a wide and united opposition. He explained that such a coalition would need to include candidates who offer a different regional appeal to challenge the current leadership.

“Also, whoever would contest favourably against the current president must come from the opposite direction in terms of regions in Nigeria,” he added.
