Pasuma is My Boss, Saheed Osupa My Colleague — Taye Currency

Popular Yoruba Fuji musician Alhaji Taye Adebisi, widely known as Taye Currency, has set the record straight regarding his relationship with fellow Fuji artists Wasiu Alabi, also known as Pasuma, and Saheed Osupa. In a recent interview with Akede Ariya, Taye Currency stated that he considers Pasuma his boss while describing Saheed Osupa as a colleague.

During the interview last Thursday, Taye Currency shared details about his long-standing association with Pasuma. He explained that although he never formally learned Fuji music from him, he has always had great admiration for Pasuma’s humility. He also dismissed any notion of a feud between them, attributing past misunderstandings to fan reactions.

“I met Pasuma in 1993, and since then, we have been together. I didn’t learn Fuji music from him, I just love him because he is a humble person. It is not that I’m disrespecting him or anything. I wasn’t his drummer or backup singer. He was in Lagos, and I was in Ibadan. So, the controversy between us was caused by fan reactions. We are not fighting. Those who are insulting us are berating and disrespecting us,” he said.

Taye Currency further explained that misunderstandings are common in any relationship, especially one that has lasted over three decades. He stated that both he and Pasuma are peaceful individuals and that any conflict between them has been exaggerated by fans.

“Anybody who has known each other for 30 years, even as a boss and a worker, is liable to have misunderstandings. We are not the first to have a misunderstanding, but it is our fans who are prolonging it. Pasuma is not a troublesome person, nor am I. So I have asked people the questions repeatedly; how did I insult Pasuma, what did I insult Pasuma with?” he questioned.

Taye Currency also spoke about his views on other Fuji musicians, noting that Obesere, another veteran in the genre, is like a brother to him, while Saheed Osupa is simply a fellow artist. However, when it comes to Pasuma, he made it clear that he considers him a superior in the industry.

“Obesere, who is now a leader for us in Fuji music, is my brother. Saheed Osupa, on the other hand, is my colleague; I know him just as a singer. But Pasuma is my boss because I admit it,” he added.

This statement comes after a previous controversy in October 2024, when Taye Currency rejected claims that Pasuma was his ‘father’ in the music industry. At the time, he had clarified that Pasuma was more like an elder brother to him, a remark that sparked debates online, with many Pasuma fans criticizing him.

However, in a recent development, Taye Currency publicly addressed the issue while in Mecca for Umrah 2025. In a viral video from the pilgrimage, he expressed regret over any misunderstandings and insisted that his words were misinterpreted. He apologized to Pasuma and anyone who might have been offended by his comments, reaffirming his respect for the Fuji legend.
