PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate in 2023, Defects to APC

The 2023 Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending weeks of speculation about her political future.

Emana’s defection became public on Sunday after she paid a visit to Governor Bassey Otu and the First Lady of Cross River State, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu, at the Government House in Calabar. The meeting, which appeared cordial, was attended by several APC leaders, including the state party chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and the Governor’s Chief of Staff.

After the meeting, Emana spoke to journalists, saying, “I only went to greet His Excellency, the Governor, and His Wife, Her Excellency Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, as a mark of respect and to formally inform them of my movement.”

Earlier that day, Emana had posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account about her switch to the APC. Her post triggered widespread reactions across political circles in the state.

She also noted that an official ceremony to welcome her into the APC fold will be held soon. According to her, the event will not only formalize her new party membership but also feature “thousands of my supporters and other big names.”

Before her move to the APC, Emana was a prominent PDP member who once contested for the House of Representatives seat for the Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency. Her political journey with the PDP ended officially on March 28, when she submitted her resignation letter to the chairman of Edem Odo Ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

In the resignation letter, she noted that leaving the PDP was a difficult choice, but one she believed was necessary for her to continue contributing to the progress of Cross River State and the nation.
