Operatives of the Nigerian Police have reportedly manhandled and arrested Thomas Ibu, a staff member in the Peoples Democratic Party’s Publicity Department ahead of the party’s 100th National Executive Committee meeting.
The incident unfolded at the PDP National Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, where tension had already been building due to internal party disagreements.
A video obtained by EMPOWERED NEWSWIRE witnessed several police officers confronting Ibu before taking him into custody.
The situation grew more chaotic when other staff of the PDP attempted to stop the officers. Their efforts to intervene led to a brief scuffle between them and the police, as staff members questioned the reason behind the arrest.
Witnesses at the scene expressed confusion over what had prompted the arrest, noting that no formal explanation was given at the time of the incident.
Sources within the party suggest that the heightened security presence and the action against Ibu may be linked to the ongoing internal dispute.
